Today in class students began watching the film "Joe Hill" about a Swedish immigrant to Utah who was accused of murder in a very controversial and political case in 1914. DUE TOMORROW: Final draft of your essay!! If you do not turn it in, you will receive a late letter home and will not participate in the end-of-quarter party on Friday!

Today in class students continued working on the rough drafts of their essays. Also, I stopped accepting late work for the 1st Quarter after 4 PM today! DUE MONDAY: Nothing, except the rough draft is due for Period 5 and certain students in Period 6 who were not working hard enough. (They have been notified.)

Today in class students worked on a Venn Diagram comparing their family's immigration to Utah to the immigration of certain other immigrant groups to Utah. DUE TOMORROW: Nothing. DUE THURSDAY: Learning Center Check #3 worth 10 points (15 points for Period 5). DUE FRIDAY: Late work deadline for the 1st Quarter is at 4 PM! Today in class students finished playing the Mine Labor simulation game that was designed to help them visualize life as a Utah miner in the 1920's. Also, family interview questions were due today! Today in class students learned what a strike is by reading a story called "Click, Clack, Moo." Then they began a mine labor simulation game designed to show them what life as a miner was like in the early 20th century. DUE TOMORROW: Family Interview Questions!

Then they took notes on 4 major groups of immigrants that came to Utah from the 1870's to 1920's). DUE TODAY: Signed grade print-offs for those who could not come see me during conferences.
